Classic Glamour - How to use liquid eyeliner

Flawless Self Tanning - Great tips and products

Liquid Eyeliner

Dita Von Tease, the burlesque dancer and wife of Marilyn Manson, is the latest darling of the European designer set. Her look is classic glamour from Hollywood's Golden Age, and it is the current flavour of the month with style queens Gwen and Christina quick to copy.

To get this look you need sexy eyes, which are simple but dramatic. Together with a Marilyn red lipstick for classic glamour, or nearly nude lip gloss for modern glamour.

The best way to achieve this look is to use liquid eyeliner, and you can see it's popularity in the latest magazines and catwalk looks. Liquid eyeliner accentuates the eyes making them dramatic.

The basis for achieving this look is easy; liquid liner, mascara, and lipstick/gloss. However the technique of applying the liquid eyeliner can be tricky. You may need some practice, a lot of patience, and my tips below!

Using liquid liner is easy once you learn, and you will find it stays on longer and if you are wearing false lashes it is also the best to use to conceal the band of the lashes.
Remember you should only use it on the top lash line, never the bottom line.

What you need
Liquid liner in a bottle with a thin brush applicator, the thinner the better. Black or brown, depending on your colouring and how dramatic you want the look.
OR
Cake eyeliner, this is a special formula eye shadow that when water or sealer is added it becomes liquid. I find this is best and I have more control over how liquid or thick the product is. Napoleon Perdis sells the cake liner and sealer in several colours. You will also need a thin brush, again the thinner the better, as it is easier to build the desired thickness.

Other liquid like products are Gel liners, which are great as you just dip  and stroke, this is also mess free, however the result is softer. Check out Mac Fluid Line, available in great colours.

Remember to keep the products sealed, as they dry out quickly and then are not useable.

Step 1
Cover your lid with primer and then foundation. Set your foundation with loose powder making sure all the creases in your eyes are smooth.

Apply your desired eye shadow, to achieve this look I recommend a nude to medium tone colour.

Step 2
Keep your head tilted slightly back so you can see your entire eye lid. With your free hand pull your lid taut at the outer corner, from the middle of your lid draw a thin line as close to the lash line as possible, draw out to the end on the eye.

Now go to the very inner corner of the eye and draw the line, again as thin as possible and go over your existing line to cover any gaps.  A sure quick stroke is far easier than a slow and seemingly controlled one.

Go over as many times as you need to cover any gaps but make sure you do this in one stroke to keep the line straight. Keep the eye closed until the liner dries.

If you make any mistakes, it is best to wait until the liner is completely dry before correcting them.

Step 3
Once the liner is dry and you are happy with the effect you can then extend the liner out. To extend past the outer corner, continue the line out slightly angling upward. It is easy to achieve this look with your eyes open as you can see your natural contour line.

And, don't forget the fake beauty spot!
